I hope all of you who can will join us on Monday morning, January 20 at 9 AM to remember the Reverend Dr Martin Luther King, Jr on his birthday (observed) and raise money for scholarships for Key West High School students.
And then I hope all of you who can stay after breakfast will attend the opening ceremony for the mandala for World Peace to be created in St Paul's nave next week by the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery.
The annual MLK Day Scholarship Prayer Breakfast will feature good food and inspiring words from the Reverend Dr AnneMarie Mingo. Some of the Drepung Gomang monks will eat with us and pray with us before they begin their mandala work. These events are both wonderful ways to honor and be part of the ecumenical and inter-religious approach that is crucial to addressing the social and moral challenges of our historical moment.
These events on Monday are also right on brand for St Paul's, Key West in our role as a cathedral for the community: a house of prayer for all people that welcomes everyone and helps to address the needs and desires of our geographic parish of Key West and the Lower Keys. As hundreds of people visit our campus next week to attend events offered by the monks of Drepung Gomang, we will extend and enrich our ministries of hospitality and beauty.
God be praised for these opportunities for connection with so many. God help us all offer a winsome Anglican witness to all who cross our paths.
