"People ask for Bibles all the time. We can't keep them on hand." This is what a staff member told me as I responded to a request for a pastoral visit to an inpatient at dePoo Medical Building.
The same staff member told me that I couldn't leave the Bible I had brought with me at the patient's request because the sharp edges of the hardcover book were considered a danger to patients.
With funds you have provided to the Rector's Special Assistance Fund, I purchased 2 cases of 24 Bibles each from the American Bible Society: soft cover editions of the New Revised Standard Version with the Apocrypha.
Some of you heard me share this news on the first Sunday of August as first Sundays are when we emphasize gifts to the TRUE Fund and the Rector's Special Assistance Fund. This request is another example of how we become aware of needs in the community beyond the congregation of St Paul's and then have the opportunity to respond with practical acts of loving service.
Thank you for making the scriptures available to folks who both want and need to read them during difficult days. May God bless all who extend the ministry of our congregation through the TRUE Fund and the Rector's Special Assistance Fund.
