We go blue for Advent, and it's a beautiful part of our Anglican heritage. Some folks feel blue throughout Advent and on into Christmastide. As Elvis sang, "a blue Christmas" without someone can be a difficult reality that makes the season more heavy than bright.
The first Christmas after my Dad died was a hard one for me. I was grateful to gather with others who had experienced difficult losses that year to light candles of remembrance and celebrate the Eucharist together in the chapel of my sending parish in Atlanta.
If the losses of this past year or years past are pressing upon you, or if you just want to experience a quieter more intimate service on the second-longest night of the year, join me for our Blue Christmas service on Wednesday, December 20 at 5:30 PM in the Lady Chapel of St Paul's. You'll be in good company. And you'll be very welcome.
