Increasingly, we understand that our mission at St Paul's in this particular moment is restoration in two key dimensions: 1) restoring relationships in the congregation and community and 2) restoring the three buildings on the campus that are over a century old.
Check out the alignment of this two-fold mission vis-à-vis the mission of the church in the Book of Common Prayer (p 855): "The mission of the church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ."
The 1857 rectory, the 1919 nave, and the 19th-century parish hall are all architectural and cultural gems. If we are only restoring these structures for the congregation of St Paul's, I'm not interested. If we are restoring them to expand our sharing of them with the wider community and to amplify the positive value we bring to all our neighbors, I'm all in.
This week the first big piece of the restoration of the historic rectory has begun. This fine old house is getting a new roof. The folks from A-Plus Roofing are hard at work. We expect you'll notice significant changes by Easter Day.
In future posts we'll share more details about the work on the rectory and how it is being made possible. So, stay tuned. In the meantime, please join me in giving great thanks to God that this old house is being renewed for greater use for the common good.
