Epiphany's Arrival

02Jan

What a delight to be part of the baptism of Weslie and Walker Hertlein on the first Sunday of Christmastide! So much love and joy was shared by all as this sister and brother, 5 and 2 years old, respectively, were welcomed into the body of Christ and the household of faith.

This coming Sunday, January 5 is the second Sunday of Christmastide--until sundown, when it becomes the Eve of Epiphany. To commemorate the triple Epiphany--the arrival of the magi, the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan, and the first miracle at the wedding in Cana--we will gather with lots of lighted candles at 6 PM on January 5 in the lady Chapel. Singing lovely and simple Taizé choruses interspersed with some Epiphany readings from scripture, we will lift our prayers for this approaching season of discovery and new illumination.

Part of our corporate illumination as a congregation is the bright news that as of this writing on January 2, we have 24 pledges in hand totaling right at $90,000.00. We are nearly halfway to our pledge number goal of 60 pledges and nearly one-fourth of the way to our pledge amount goal of $400,000.00. Thank you very much to all who have pledged and who will pledge to support the work and witness of St Paul's on campus and in the wider community this new year.

God who has begun a good work in this place and sustained us for 192 years thus far will empower and enable us to prepare for a sustaining and sustainable future. Amen.
