Celebrations in June

29May

This is your invitation to eight celebrations in June!

#1 This coming Sunday, June 1, is the seventh and last Sunday in Eastertide. So, it's also the last Sunday for a good while that we will use our new white vestments. This beautiful set was made by Watts & Co, London and is a gift to the parish from the estate of Chuck Hammond. This Sunday we will officially dedicate this new high mass set which adds such beauty and dignity to our celebrations of the Holy Eucharist.

#2 On Saturday, June 7, Pentecost Eve, a group of congregants from St Kevin's in Opa Locka will visit Key West. They should reach St Paul's around 11 AM. If you are in Key West that day, please come along and greet them as they arrive. They will have a tour of St Paul's followed by a tour of St Peter's. Then they will have a little time to look around elsewhere in Key West before heading back home.

#3 Sunday, June 8 is Pentecost Sunday. The color of the day is red. Please wear all the red you can muster to combine with our red vestments as the commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit in power and to stay.

#4 Sunday, June 15, is Trinity Sunday. Both Tim and I will be away for continuing education. Ed Gomez+ will celebrate Eucharist at St Paul's at 7:30 AM and then Ed+ and Dean will lead worship in a combined Eucharist at 10 AM at St Peter's with the congregations of both St Peter's and St Paul's.

#5 Sunday, June 22, we will celebrate the second Sunday after Pentecost at St Paul's with our regular Eucharists at St Paul's at 7:30 AM and 10 AM.

#6 Saturday, June 28, 10 AM at Trinity Cathedral, Miami, the Pauli Murray Justice & Peace Community of the Diocese of Southeast Florida invites you to celebrate the life and legacy of the Reverend Dr Pauli Murray and Pride Month. Pauli Murray was the first woman of color to be ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church. I am pleased and honored to be the preacher for this first-annual diocesan commemoration. I hope some of you may be able to attend. (If you are interested in going and would like to spend the night before in Miami to be there for the 10 AM service Saturday, please let me know. Cathedral Provost Jason Roberson can assist us in getting hotel rooms at a reduced rate.)

#7 Sunday, June 29, is the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. Only occasionally does our shared feast of title with St Peter's fall on a Sunday. This year it does, so we need not transfer it to the nearest Sunday. As has become our custom in the last few years, we will celebrate our shared patronal feast with the congregation of St Peter's. We will have our usual 7:30 AM Eucharist at St Paul's, and then the people of St Peter's and the Reverend Ed Gomez, their supply priest for June, will join us at St Paul's for the 10 AM Eucharist. We will celebrate Peter, Paul, and Pride.

#8 Sunday, June 29 is also the date of the annual Key West Pride Parade. We shall once again have a prominent and welcoming presence in the parade. Details to come. (You can help with planning at an organizing meeting at coffee hour on Sunday, June 1.) Blessedly, this year the parade will begin at 7 PM, so it might be a degree or two cooler!

It will be a great month in worship and celebration together with opportunities to fellowship not only twice with St Peter's, Key West folks but also once with St Kevin's, Opa Locka and, particularly on June 29, with all of Key West.
