DESCRIPTION: Windows #128, #129, and #130 in the north tower are listed as three windows, but are considered one. As is the companion window in the south tower, it is one window comprised of three panels, each featuring a roundel or medallion depicting a Sign of Our Faith. Starting from the right is the Cross and Key; in the center is the St. Andrew Roundel, a cross in the form of an X; on the left is the Pillar and Scourge.
SYMBOLISM: The Cross and Keys Roundel is a symbol of the apostle Peter who met his death by crucifixion. The crossed keys refer to the Lord's gift to him: the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Cross Saltire/St. Andrew Roundel is a symbol of Saint Andrew, who was put to death in Greece by crucifixion on a cross in the shape of an X. Tradition says that the apostle Andrew died on this form of cross, requesting that he be crucified on a cross unlike that of his Lord.
The Pilar and Scourge symbolizes the Passion. Christ was scourged, or whipped, after His trial before He was lead to Calvary.
MEMORIAL: Margaret M. Mora was born in Florida in 1849. Her mother was born in New York; her father in Virginia. She was first married to Antonio Mathews, a baker born in Portugal or the Canary Islands. They were the parents of Harriet, Maria, Edward, and Charles. After the death of Antonio, she married Jose Augustin Mora on August 30, 1875. The Reverend Fulwood, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, performed the ceremony. The Mora family lived on Eaton Street, near Thomas Street.
Fred Matthews, son of Margaret's daughter, Harriet, was born in Key West in 1888. In 1909 he married Marjorie Fae Fulford. The rector of St. Paul's, The Reverend Charles Stout, performed the ceremony. The year before, Fred founded the daily newspaper The Journal, of which he was editor and publisher.
