In Sacred Memory of Rosana M. Myers Born March 7, 1884 Died Dec. 27, 1920
DESCRIPTION: Moses, the dominant figure, is seen in the act of smiting the rock with his staff. An abundance of water is flowing from the steep rugged cliff. One onlooker appears aghast; others are bent upon filling their containers with the precious fluid.
THE STORY: While Israel was encamped in the wilderness, Moses made a serious mistake. Because
of a water shortage, people began to quarrel and blamed him for leading them into the wilderness. God had told him to go and speak to the rock and water would flow forth. However, Moses lost his temper and struck the rock in anger. Although water poured forth, by not following God's instructions his actions showed he did not trust God, who decreed that Moses could not bring his people into the promised land and they wandered the wilderness for 40 years.
