DESCRIPTION: The scarlet roundel encircled with shades of blue contains a golden crown; within the crown is a cross. The artist chose a Latin budded cross with trefoil ends representing the Holy Trinity. The crown has flowing lines ending with stylized fleur de lis and decorated with other artistic geometric embellishments.
SYMBOLISM: The cross and crown together symbolize the reward for the faithful: life after death.
"Be thou faithful unto death
and I will give thee a Crown of Life."
(Revelation 2:10)
MEMORIAL: Emma V. Roberts was born October 14, 1863. She was married to George Henry Brightman on January 3, 1881 in a ceremony performed by The Reverend Juan B. Baez, provisional rector of St. Paul's. George Ferguson, next door neighbor to the groom, was one of the witnesses.
George Henry Brightman was born circa 1856 in Florida of parents from Connecticut. Emma and George had two children, Mary T., born October 24, 1881, and Lilian, born September 9, 1886. Unfortunately, Emma died in Philadelphia on April 16, 1892 at the age of 29 of a dread disease and was buried in Key West.
