Raising Jairus' Daughter (Detail #1)

Phipps, Ball & Burnham (conjecture) 1920 or before 1950

In Memory of Blanche Stanhope Reynolds Born Aug. 26, 1862- Oct. 7, 1918

DESCRIPTION: While the entire window illustrates the raising of Jairus' daughter, this detail depicts the moment when Jesus took the daughter by the hand and said to her, "Little girl, I say to you, arise." (Mark 5:41)The hand of Jesus is in the traditional manner of blessing. The child's hand is bent at the wrist. This detail illustrates a familiar verse:

I said to the man who stood at the gate of the years,
"Give me light, that I may tread safely into the unknown." And he replied,
"Go out into the darkness,
Put your hand into the Hand of God. That shall be to you better than light And safer than the known way."
