Guardian Angel
Studio Unknown. Circa 1975

Roseanne Marie Sawyer Born 1970 Died 1973
DESCRIPTION: The window is a companion to Guardian Angel (Window #2), one of a pair given in memory of little Roseanne Marie Sawyer. Although it is a more modern window in artistic style than the majority of the other windows in St. Paul's, it is nonetheless, equally beautiful. The heavenly being is dressed in a red garment and green cloak, similar to the angel in Window #2. The golden-winged figure is also kneeling in an attitude of prayer.
However, in this window, the Guardian Angel has hands clasped together in prayer with fingers intertwined rather than with flattened palms and fingers.
SYMBOLISM: It is quite fitting and also poignant that the windows featuring the Guardian Angel, whose role is that of attendant spirit, were given in memory of a small child. They are positioned so the angel can watch over the entrance to the Baptistry, the place where children first enter the church.
MEMORIAL: Roseanne Marie Sawyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Russell Sawyer was born in 1970 and died tragically on July 4, 1973, at the age of three, following a fall into a canal.
