Fr. Larry D. Hooper, is the 33rd Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, beginning his term as rector in July of 2009. Prior to this, he was the Interim Rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla, Missouri, Rector of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri, the founding clergy and first vicar of Grace Episcopal Church in Tampa, Florida, and Associate Rector of Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church in Naples, Florida. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in West Palm Beach, Florida, was his “home” parish.
Fr. Hooper earned his undergraduate degrees at Palm Beach Junior College (Nursing) and Florida State University (Religion and Classical Civilizations). His seminary education was at the Virginia Theological Seminary, where he served at St. James Episcopal Church in Potomac, Maryland. He did his Clinical Pastoral Education at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Before attending seminary, Fr. Hooper was a registered nurse specializing in the areas of intensive care and operating room and was RN First Assistant with the Department of General, Chest, and Vascular Surgery of the Palm Beach Medical Group.
He met and married his wife, Katherine, in 1983. They have three adult children: Matthew, who lives in St. Louis, Missouri, and Sarah and Abigail, who both live in the Tampa, St. Petersburg, Florida area.
Fr. Hooper is, currently Dean of the Keys Deanery, of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. He also has served as President of the Standing Committee in the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida.
His interests include golf, snorkeling, gym exercise, having dinner out with his wife, theater, and music.
Director of Music / Organist
After receiving his Bachelor of Music degree in voice performance and education from the University of New York at Fredonia, he graduated from Syracuse University with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance with a concentration in accompaniment.
He has been a church musician for over 40 years and has served in various denominations, including Presbyterian, Episcopal, Methodist, United Church of Christ, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
Tim moved to Key West in August 2015 and was appointed the Director of Music at St Paul’s in December of 2016.
Jackie is originally from Niagara Falls, New York, and has lived in the Keys for seven years. She has been sexton at St. Paul’s 2013.
She calls herself a handy-woman by trade—Fr. Hooper calls her the “gold standard for sextons!”
She graduated valedictorian in high school as one of the first females to graduate from the carpentry program in 1988 and earned a construction degree from Alfred State College in 1992.
The beauty of the buildings and grounds is in large part due to Jackie’s wealth of talents and pride in her work.
Jackie’s motto is "Make it work, but make it right, and together, everyone achieves more."
